South Korea and Japan Should Have the Bomb♣

My name is Daniel. I was an English teacher in Seoul, South Korea, and am now a writer who has

published three books including South Korea: Our Story by Daniel Nardini.

                       Long before U.S. President Donald Trump ever came on the scene (let alone being

president), I have advocated for almost 20 years that because North Korea is pursuing nuclear weapons

that both South Korea and Japan should also have nuclear weapons. A growing number of South Korean

law makers have been calling for South Korea to have its own nuclear arsenal to deal with North Korea. I think

that the time is right---North Korea has made it clear that it will never give up owning nuclear weapons,

and that it is time that South Korea threatens North Korea with the same destructive capacity that North

Korea is using to threaten its neighbors. Yes, I believe that Japan should also have a nuclear arsenal.

Unlike President Trump, I do NOT believe that U.S. soldiers should be pulled out of South Korea or Japan.

The greater show of force used against North Korea, the better. At the same time, that greater show of

force should also include North Korea's neighbors having nuclear weapons to counter-attack against

North Korea's threats. I do not see China doing anything about North Korea, and so the only way for

South Korea and Japan to deal with North Korea is to have the same destructive capacity as does

North Korea. If North Korea's neighbors can provide North Korea with mutually assured destruction, then

this will make the North Korean government think twice about trying any provocation and then use the

threat of nuclear weapons and missiles to deliver them.
